The automatic T5 was mechanically beyond saving—the engine was completely dismantled and no longer repairable. As a result, the car was broken down for parts, which were then used to bring the manual T5 back into proper condition.
Below are some photos showing the process: from the initial purchase, through dismantling, transport to the scrap yard, and finally the relocation of the subframe.

The engine block itself had spent several months without a cylinder head, sitting in the harbour of Scheveningen.
Loading the subframe was done rather improvisationally, while unloading it later turned out to be much easier.
In the end, parts of the damaged engine block were even repurposed into various engine-themed decorative pieces—a fitting final use for a motor that gave everything it had.
