During diagnostics, it became clear that the throttle body could no longer correctly report the throttle position to the ECU. This is a well-known issue on these Volvo models.
The throttle body works using a needle that slides over a contact strip, which digitally reports the throttle position to the ECU. The unit is equipped with two of these position sensors.
Unfortunately, these contact strips wear every time the throttle is used, and after 270,000 km, the strips in this S80 were completely worn out.
For now, a temporary throttle body with 167,000 km has been installed, which still functions perfectly. The original throttle body will be converted to a magnetic sensor. Because this sensor works without physical contact, the position sensor should, in principle, no longer wear out or fail in the future.
