The clutch on the V70 had been slipping for quite some time, and after a short conditioning drive it became clear that this was just a bit too much. Upon arriving at work, the clutch finally gave up completely, and the V70 had to be towed home by the S60.
The timing belt, and therefore also the water pump, are at the end of their service life and will both need to be replaced as well. At the moment, the garage at home is being cleared so the V70 can be moved inside, after which thorough maintenance will begin.
The V70 is barely used these days. A sensible person would probably send it straight to the scrapyard. However, we genuinely appreciate the build quality of the V70 and the reliability of the D5 engine. The car isn’t in the way, can be stored off the road on private property, and can be suspended, meaning it doesn’t cost any additional money to keep.
To be continued…
